Three Innovation Design Awards to Artisan

At the IMM Fair held in Cologne between 18th and 23rd January 2011 the German Design Council honored the company Artisanwith three prestigious “Interior Innovation Awards 2011” for the innovative design of chairs and tables. A professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo Salih Teskeredžić designed all the winning products. The awarded Artisan products were exhibited in the Boulevard of Innovations at the Fair and as such were competing along with the fifteen best products for a special award “Interior Innovation Award – the Best of the Best 2011”.

At this world’s leading furnishing industry trade show held in January more than 1,150 exhibitors presented their products before almost 140,000 visitors from 128 countries, and the stand with Artisan products attracted interest of globally recognized names in this industry. “To present Artisan at the fair where top names in the furnishing industry exhibit their products was not only a challenge for us, but also a test of quality which we offer through our corporate philosophy.” Artisan management points out adding that all these awards have confirmed the right decision to distinguish Artisan by its accentuated design.
According to the organizers, this year’s Fair has been the most successful one in the last ten years placing Cologne yet again in the centre of furnishing industry, and according to the participants of the Fair, the 2011 IMM in Cologne was an important meeting place for businesses. For the next IMM Artisanhas announced passing the limits these awards have set for them, as well as for the competitors.

SUMMER DESIGN EXHIBITION 2011

Every year The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts School of Architecture and DIS – ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN hosts a seven week long summer program called “Furniture Design in Scandinavia” for foreign students wanting to learn more about Scandinavian design culture and furniture design.

Most of the students attending are from universities or design schools in USA, but the courses are starting to attract students from other countries as well.

The main objectives for the student attending the program is to:
- learn about methods of designing and manufacturing furniture
- to study contemporary and traditional Scandinavian design and architecture
- develop analytical sketching and visual note-taking skills for design purposes

For years now it has been a tradition that the students visit Fritz Hansen headquarters to see the museum collection dating back to 1872 and they also receive a short lecture in design strategy from our Head of Design, Christian G Rasmussen. Fritz Hansen is only one of many, many visits during the course covering not only Danish design, but also focusing on Sweden and Finland.

After traveling around Scandinavia it is back to the workshops in Copenhagen to sketch, test and develop their final 1:1 model. The very intense program always ends with a reception and a summer exhibition in August where the students get to present their work to the public.

Latus and Torsio tables, nominated for the most prestigious design award in Germany

German Design Award 2012

After winning of three Interior Innovation Awars in the begining of this year, Artisan company received an invitation to nominate its awarded products for the post prestigious design award in Germany- German Design Award 2012. Folowing its philosophy to be recognizable by its high-quality design, among three rewarded products, Artisan will, for this ”award of all awards”, as it’s called in Germany, nominate tables Latus and Torsio, whose author is professor Salih Teskeredzic.

While the entire Latus collection deals with an original strength, nature and the poetics of wood as a material, Torsio table represents the archetype of table made of solid wood in the context of transition to the modern archetype of contemporary design, demonstrating the capabilities of the revolutionary technique of 5-axial CNC machine. We believe that these unique products will draw attention of Jury of experts and justify the trust of German Design Council, whose invitation is the only possible way to participate in the competition to win this prestigious award.

Winners of this prestigious award will be known after 15th August 2011.German Design Council is composed of 170 foundations that employ 1.6 million people, which makes it close to the creative industry and market needs.

About the award of awards

The very best in design deserves the best in prizes, to be more precise, the 2012 German Design Award. It is bestowed annually for outstanding achievements in product and communication design by the German Design Council. Personalities from the world of design are also honored. There is also a cash prize for young designers. The 2012 German Design Award is the award of awards and the award of award-winners. A reward for outstanding work. Only works that are both pioneering and marketable, and indeed have already proved that they are fit for market, are short-listed. The competition aims to identify, present, and reward innovative and international design trends. In other words, design that differentiates. In this light, participating is something for the crème de la crème. Winning too.

Artisan

The Artisan factory emerged from the traditional woodwork shop Ćostović, which conveyed all its love towards wood and 50-year experience of wood processing into it. Artisan specializes in the manual production of high quality furniture made from solid wood, and this insistence on manual, artisan work is what sets us apart. We acquired our first experiences by producing furniture for Dutch and British designers, and we started our own first collection in collaboration with the regional designers in 2007. Since then, our aim has been to reaffirm the philosophy that guides us with each collection, each piece of wood, with each designer’s vision and diligent craftsmens touch.

A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN

Republic of Fritz Hansen™ welcomes an original design icon into their collection; the KAISER idell™ lamp collection, designed by Christian Dell .

The German silversmith Christian Dell designed the KAISER idellTM lamp series in the 1930’s. The lamp series carries representation towards the Bauhaus era. This makes it a perfect match to the works of Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjærholm carrying the same elements of the Bauhaus design style. The lights were designed in cooperation with Gebr. Kaiser and Co.

The asymmetrical design of the KAISER idell lampshade is a characteristic feature of the lamp design. Manufactured in high-quality steel, the shade is hand-painted in its distinctive original colours. With its unique quality, precision engineering and craftsmanship, the KAISER idell series exuberates originality, sculptural excellence and pure design at its best.

The KAISER idell lamp design is today recognised as a classic design icon, which became well known in the late 60’s for its appearance as a table lamp on the desks of famous TV-inspectors, such as the German detective series ‘Der Kommisar’, leading to its nickname, ‘Inspector lamp’.

The KAISER idell lamp design is available as a table, floor, pendant and wall lamp. The lamps will be introduced into Republic of Fritz Hansen’s collection from October 2010 and will be available from Republic Stores and selected authorized Fritz Hansen dealers around the globe.

FAVN™ - THE RESULT OF A CREATIVE DIALOGUE

FAVN – the Danish translation for embrace, is the result of an experimental dialogue between Fritz Hansen & Jaime Hayon. It presents an honest interpretation of Fritz Hansen’s design values.

“FAVN is an evolution of Fritz Hansen’s design language that brings together the qualities of Spanish and Danish design”. Says Jaime Hayón.

“FAVN is picking up from the long tradition of Arne Jacobsen in the sense that I wanted to create a form that was based on a shell, like the Egg™ and the Swan™ which looks equally beautiful from all angles.” Hayón continues. “I wanted the sofa to be based on a shell. A shell being hard on the outside, soft and welcoming on the inside. I wanted to create a form that embraces you, something really organic – that’s why we named it FAVN.” Says Jaime Hayón. Recognized by his fresh, colourful and extrovert design style, the award winning artist-designer is the most recent addition to our family tree of designers.

The new sofa will be available to purchase from Republic of Fritz Hansen stores and selected authorized Republic of Fritz Hansen dealers from around the world as of September 2011.
